Lincoln Cathedral shines red, white and blue for VE Day

We will never forget those fallen war heroes

By Local Democracy Reporter

Lincoln’s most famous landmark lit up in the colours of the Union Jack to honour the 75th VE Day.

In recent weeks, Lincoln Cathedral has been lit blue to honour the hard work of the NHS and essential workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

But on Friday night it shone bright in the colours of the British flag to remember those who fought in the second world war.

Lincoln Cathedral has a close connection to military services in the UK, with three chapels dedicated to the army, navy and air force.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the cathedral said: “The decision to light up in red, white and blue for VE day reflects the cathedral’s continuing presence as a welcome sight on the horizon for all those returning home to Lincolnshire.”
