Dan Harkin state tennis

Manhattan High’s Dan Harkin competes in the Class 6A state tennis tournament last year. Harkin went 5-0 in singles play in an event at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka on Monday.

It continues to be smooth sailing for Manhattan High’s boys tennis team.

In a meet at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka on Monday, the Indians picked up another team victory, earning 46 total points. That edged second-place Garden City (38) by eight points.

Wichita East (35 points), Valley Center (33) and Maize (29) rounded out the top five.

Centennial League rivals Junction City and Topeka High tied for seventh with 23 points, while Topeka West finished 11th in the 12-team meet with 10 points.

Individually, the Indians’ top two singles players dominated. Dan Harkin, playing in the No. 1 spot, went 5-0 — and didn’t drop a single game in the process. Robert Zhang, who holds down the No. 2 spot in the lineup, also went 5-0.

Both finished in first at their respective positions Monday.

The No. 2 doubles team of Luke Craft and Kelton Poole also went undefeated, matching Harkin and Zhang's 5-0 marks to finish first. The No. 1 doubles team of Jack Easton and Jerin Ugrin went 3-2 to take third.

The team has a quick turnaround, hitting the court again Tuesday in a quad meet at Emporia. The matches are slated to begin at 3 p.m.
