Gangtok was covered with a hail blanket on April 9 afternoon as heavy rain along with hail and thunderstorm lashed the Sikkim capital.
Heavy rains, thunderstorm and lightning as already forecasted by the India Meteorology Department (IDM), occurred in Sikkimâs East district.
While photographs of beautiful Gangtok streets covered in hailstorm quickly went viral on the social media, reports came in that several crops were damaged in the East district.
Many standing crops of buckwheat, maize and others have been destroyed in East district villages, due to hailstones.
