A West Des Moines woman was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Tuesday on charges of drug dealing and child endangerment at the conclusion of a Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement (MINE) drug task force investigation.

Michelle Nicole Sikes, 40, of 9005 Bridgewood Blvd., West Des Moines, was arrested on a warrant for controlled substance violation, possession of false drug tax stamp, failure to affix drug stamp, child endangerment and violation of a no-contact order.

The MINE drug task force is a federally funded, multi-jurisdictional task force that is responsible for the detection and apprehension of persons or groups involved in the use and sale of illegal drugs.

The MINE team executed a search warrant Jan. 9 at Sikes’ West Des Moines residence. According to court records, the search allegedly disclosed “approximately two ounces of methamphetamine, several digital scales with white crystal residue, used and unused packaging consistent with the distribution of methamphetamine, a container of cutting agent and several paraphernalia items.”

In addition, the search also disclosed “multiple ounces of marijuana, several digital scales, used and unused packaging consistent with the distribution of marijuana and several paraphernalia items.”

The charge of child endangerment was filed because Sikes allegedly “did knowingly and unlawfully possess methamphetamine and marijuana in a household” where “multiple children” resided.

The charge of violation of a no-contact order was filed because Sikes “did knowingly and unlawfully allow Riley Metheny to have contact with her minor child, who is the protected party in a no-contact order (order of protection) with Riley Metheny,” according to court records.

Metheny was arrested in December 2018 on charges of child endangerment and indecent acts with a child. He pleaded guilty in May 2019 to a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in a plea agreement reached in Polk County District Court.

According to court records, Metheny was “recorded on security camera slapping, kicking, tossing and hitting” a 2-year-old child, and he picked up the child “by the throat and arms on several occasions and at one point forced the front side of” the child’s head onto Metheny’s “exposed buttocks.”

During the MINE investigation, Metheny was observed to be residing with Sikes and the protected minor, according to court records.

Sikes was booked into the Dallas County Jail and later released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled for arraignment March 6 in Dallas County District Court.
