New Delhi: Robert Romawia Royte, Mizoram’s Minister for Sports and Tourism, surprised many at the little Chite Veng area of Aizawl earlier this week when he pitched in to help lift heavy boulders up a steep slope so that his neighbour, a man named Lalnghilhlova, could rebuild his dilapidated house.
The footballer-turned-politician joined other volunteers from the community and helped carry heavy stones from a stockyard that was about 60 metres downhill from the construction site.
With Covid-19 restrictions in place, Lalnghilhlova was reportedly unable to find labour or gather enough hands to carry the construction materials. While his neighbours helped, more hands were needed to carry the items for construction.
It was then that Royte, who is from the adjoining Chhinga Veng area, decided to work with the other volunteers and help Lalnghilhlova.
“I may be from another locality but Chite Veng is part of my assembly constituency. Everyone in the area knows me and looks up to me as a leader and it is important for a leader to lead by example,” he has been quoted as saying by The Hindu.
Roye had joined the Mizo National Front party a month before the 2018 assembly elections and was elected from Aizawl East II.

Arunachal doctors pin their photos on PPE kits
Health workers in the Miao sub-division of Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district have started putting their photographs on the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) gear they wear to help patients feel more comfortable. Doctors and nurses are often unrecognisable in their full PPE gear and this move is aimed at giving a more human touch to patient care.
A photograph of the health workers was shared by Changlang Deputy Commissioner Devansh Yadav earlier this week and has since been praised by social media users for the unique initiative.

“Patients in the centres are kept in isolation and they aren’t allowed to go out or meet anyone. Though there is a helpline which they can use, they don’t get to see a human face and even their care providers look the same as all are covered in PPE kits,” Yadav said.
With 55 positive Covid-19 cases, Changlang is the most-affected district in the state.
Stranded in Assam, Spanish cyclist plows fields, enjoys rural life in lockdown
A Spanish cyclist, who could not go back home due to the nationwide lockdown, has taken to plowing the fields and living the rural life in Assam’s Bokota village.
The man, whose name could not be verified, had come to participate at a youth festival in Sivasagar’s Gargaon but got stranded after the Covid-19 lockdown was imposed in March. He had travelled to Myanmar and Manipur before reaching Assam.
According to reports, he was offered accommodation at a guest house but he chose to stay in Bokota.

Manipur outfits ‘derecognise’ titular king over his decision to contest election
Six civil organisations of Manipur have released a joint statement ‘derecognising’ Leishemba Sanajaoba as the titular king of the state after he decided to contest Rajya Sabha elections while retaining his royal title.
The statement by All Manipur United Club Organsiation (AMUCO), International Peace and Social Upliftment (IFSA), United People’s Front (UPF), Heritage Council (HERICOUN), CCSK and the LIPUL, says that Sanajaoba was firm on his decision in spite of pleas against the same by the state’s citizens.
The outfits had earlier urged Sanajaoba to clarify whether he wished to contest elections or retain his position as titular king by 12 June.
In a statement, however, Sanajaoba expressed his desire to contest the elections without stepping down as the king.
In Arunachal’s East Siang district, a new fish species named after two rivers
A new species of fish has been discovered in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district by Keshav Kumar Jha, head of the Department of Zoology at the Jawaharlal Nehru College in Pasighat.
The species has been christened Schizothorax sikusirumensis after the rivers Siku and Sirum, where the fish species was found at a junction.
The discovery comes a year after five new species of fish were found in the state by a fisheries and aquatic ecology research team.
