A Perth man has been told he will never walk again after a motorsport accident in Japan.

Danny Westwood is now stuck in a Japanese hospital — paralysed from the ribcage down.

He does have some movement in his arms but doctors say in terms of walking again — his prognosis isn’t great.

The 25 year old was drifting when he lost control of his car and crashed.

Drifting is one of the fastest growing motorsports in Australia and is very popular overseas.

Drivers intentionally oversteer, causing the car to slide at speed.

The sport is heavily regulated in Australia but overseas the rules are a little more lax.

The aim is to get Mr Westwood home to Perth but that can’t happen until his medical bill is paid.

Right now, it’s already $100,000.

Mr Westwood did have travel insurance but motorsport accidents are not covered.

His positive outlook is the main thing.

“He’s remained positive the entire time and he’s always been in good spirits even from day dot with it all but it’s beginning to take a toll ... get him home as soon as possible,” his friend Georgia Cottnam said
