NEW DELHI: Homegrown automobile manufacturer Tata Motors has confirmed the public debut (production version) of its upcoming premium hatchback, codenamed 45X, at the 2019 Geneva motor show. A rival to Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i10 and Honda Jazz, the 45X is expected to hit Indian markets in November 2019.
The Tata 45X concept was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, along with the H5X concept, based on which the company has introduced the Harrier SUV.
Post the expo, it was also seen in the previous Geneva motor show.
"We are going to launch it after six-seven months, in quarter second," said Mayank Pareek, president, passenger vehicle business unit, Tata Motors.
Leaked spy images of the production Tata 45X give away nuances of Tata's Impact Design 2.0. The premium hatchback gets large headlights, a sleek front grille, and smaller wheels as compared to the 45X concept vehicle.
“The company has registered a significant growth in the last three years after it introduced new vehicles with attractive designs and features and robust safety aspects. Against the car industry growth of 4.4 per cent from April to December in the current fiscal, Tata Motor's growth was 21.4 per cent. In Rajasthan also, the company grew at 30 per cent against the industry growth of 6-7 per cent," he added.
The Tata Group has a plan of having nearly 2,000 sales points across the country by 2021-22, he said. It has increased the number of showrooms to 800 from 400 three years ago.
It is speculated that the Tata 45X will share the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine offered in the Tata Nexon. A diesel engine is likely to follow suit. While there is no official quote on the prices, it is expected be priced between Rs 5.4- 9 lakh.
