AGARTALA: The Tripura government on Tuesday evening notified curfew across the state, prohibiting the congregation of more than three people at public places, said chief secretary Manoj Kumar. He added that the curfew will be in force till March 31.
Kumar said the state government had to undertake some stringent measures beyond lockdown and imposition of Sec 144 of CrPC considering the gravity of the situation.
"So far, we have sent 416 people, including 47 persons having recent travel history of affected countries, to isolated quarantine. The rest were put under home quarantine for two weeks. The samples of 16 people have tested negative for Covid-19," he stated.
The chief secretary, however, maintained since nobody was found Covid-19 positive in the state so far, home isolation of each and every person is important at the moment. The curfew will reduce public movement to a negligible level and there will no chance of any spread if social distancing is maintained for the next one week, he said.
"We have made adequate arrangements of hospital quarantine and isolation in every district. If any Covid-19 case is detected, the Agartala Govt Medical College and other district hospitals are well equipped to provide primary healthcare," Kumar pointed out.
Moreover, the state government has constituted an expert team of doctors to treat any such patient.
"Strict isolation in government-designated quarantine shall be observed by all foreign returnees, Indian citizens, people who landed in India on or after March 9 from Covid-19 affected countries for the period notified by district surveillance officers. Home quarantine shall be observed for suspected patients with symptomatic infestation of Covid-19 for the prescribed period but any default shall be liable for legal action," Kumar said.

As many as 11 passengers were identified as a high-risk group and sent for special medical surveillance. All of them had travelled with the 23-year-old Manipur girl who tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
"Lockdown curfew is the only option to prevent the spread of coronavirus in India and we are committed to it," Kumar said.
