INPT seeks review of governor decision on ADC
AGARTALA: After Congress, Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) has sought a review of the appointment of former chief secretary GK Rao as administrator of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) following the expiry of council's term a week ago.
INPT president and veteran tribal leader Bijay Kumar Hrangkhawal said the constitutional spirit of 6th Schedule did not suggest bureaucratic ruling in ADC.
Hrangkhawal was one of the frontliners in the 80s who fought for the creation of ADCs and has been fighting for their empowerment.
"We cannot oppose the decision of the governor but certainly we can seek his attention to review the situation. A 30-member elected council is now replaced with a single administrator who had served under the state government. How can he work for the development of indigenous people going beyond the will and wish of the state?" he pointed out.
He urged CM Biplab Kumar Deb to tell the people of ADC how much money has been allocated for the development of indigenous population living in 6th Schedule areas. "The outgoing council was run by CPM and there was no development and empowerment. Now, the same thing is going to be practised in a different form that will frustrate the spirit of the ADC," he alleged.
Supporting Hrangkhawal, Congress leader and former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma said the governor's decision to appoint an administrator without even consulting the political parties of the state was an attempt to offer an upper hand to the BJP-IPFT government.
