AGARTALA: The tribal-based Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) has decided to block national highways, interstate roads and railway tracks on December 10 in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The party opposed the move of the central government, which seeks to reduce the number of continuous years of stay in India needed to obtain citizenship by naturalisation from 11 to 6 years and believed that it is intended to legalise a large number of infiltrators and illegal migrants in India.

INPT president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhwal said the blockade will continue from 6 am to 6 pm on that day. "We will continue our movement to prevent the Centre from introducing the bill till our last breath," he said. He added that the INPT has requested the regional parties like IPFT, NCT, tribal wing of Congress and CPM to support their stir.
