Tripura Police have detained a person hailing from West Bengal here on Tuesday evening for his alleged links with the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.

AGARTALA: Tripura Police have detained a person hailing from West Bengal here on Tuesday evening for his alleged links with the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh. He was allegedly planning to carry out blasts ahead of the parliamentary elections.
"The person, identified as Nazir Shekh (25), belongs to Murshidabad district of West Bengal. I cannot tell much about the detention for the sake of investigation and follow up action.
The NIA has been informed for further investigation," said DGP AK Shukla.
He added that preliminary interrogation has revealed that Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen was involved in planting an IED in Bodh Gaya during the Dalai Lama's visit on January 19 last year. The IED was recovered before it went off;.
"Tripura Police have been put on alert for the past few days and we have acted on every input. Whatever information came to us has been verified. We have not left any stone unturned to ensure security of the people and the country. There is no reason to panic. I request citizens to bring any suspicious activity to the notice of police," said Shukla.
According to reports, Nazir was in Agartala for the past few days and held meetings with his local contacts.
