AGARTALA: The Tripura government on Sunday unveiled an official logo for its brand of Tripureswari tea. The logo features Tripura's iconic landmark, the "Neermahal", which is the largest water palace in India.
Speaking at the launch, Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb said the process has begun to start exporting tea to Bangladesh. Other neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka are already export tea to Bangladesh but no steps were taken by the previous government to market Tripura tea and make it popular, Deb said.
If the best quality of tea can be produced and manufactured, it will also help attract tourists to the state, he added.
Tripura has 284 tea estates spread across 6,430 hectares of land. With a tea production capacity of about 10 million kg annually, the state is the second-largest tea producer in the northeast after Assam.
"Tripura Tea Development Corporation has been asked to pluck 1-2 of the most tender tea leaves and also to take care of processing, so that the best quality of tea can be produced," Deb said.
