AGARTALA: The Tripura high court on Wednesday set aside the state government's decision to cancel the recruitment process to Tripura Civil Service (TCS) and Tripura Police Service (TPS) cadres, initiated by the previous Left Front government in April 2016.
The BJP state government, after coming to power in the state last year, had asked Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) to cancel the entire process of recruitment with a plea that the new government has adopted a fresh recruitment policy.

Setting aside the plea of TPSC and view of the state government, high court bench of Justice Subhasish Talapatra while hearing the petition of an civil service aspirant Samudra Debbarma has directed TPSC to complete the recruitment by the next eight weeks. The court set aside the decision of the state primarily on the grounds that no amendment in the recruitment rule has been carried out by state government in last one year and the recruitment process was in an advanced stage. The government decision of cancellation of recruitment even after conducting the written test has jolted the civil service aspirants.
However, TPSC argued that the recruitment process was cancelled by an order of the General Administration (Personnel & Training) Department on August 20, last year. The petitioner had challenged the cancellation of the process on the ground that the new recruitment policy was issued by the same department, by which the exam was conducted.
