Tripura University, Pulse Research Centre (Kanpur) head Dr NP Singh revealed that ICAR scientists have invented three local varieties of pulses - Tripura Moong, Tripura Maskalai and TRCP-9 (motordal).
All formalities have been completed following which the Centre has issued a notification on the innovation. These new pulses will soon be distributed among farmers for commercial cultivation.
"In the last three to four years, India made a remarkable achievement in the field of pulse production. While three years ago, pulses cost Rs 200 to 300 per kg, the prices have now come down to Rs 50 to 60 per kg. This is because production of pulses in India has increased by 30% in the last three years," Singh said.
