Train with 1,200 leaves Karnataka for Tripura
AGARTALA: About 1,200 people from Agartala, who were stranded in different parts of Karnataka, boarded a special train on Sunday evening to return home. They will reach Agartala three days later on May 13. The passengers were screened before boarding and the Tripura government has appointed nodal officers who are coordinating their travel. State government spokesperson and education minister Ratan Lal Nath said West Bengal is the only state which has not yet allowed us to bring back our stranded citizens by train.
He added, “However, they have been issuing travel passes for vehicles and whoever is interested can avail the opportunity.”
As per the government’s estimates, around 20,000 citizens of Tripura are stranded in 10 different Indian states. On Saturday, a bus carrying some students from Pune left for Agartala, while on Friday, 200 students from Kota, Rajasthan, returned.
