AGARTALA: The anti-tobacco lobby in
Tripura has demanded action against smoking, consumption of
non-smoking tobacco and
trafficking of drugs.
Observing Anti Tobacco Day on Friday, leading oncologist of the northeast and anti-drug crusader Dr Arup Roybarman stated that action against drugs and cannabis initiated by CM Biplab Kumar Deb was well appreciated but The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003, has been flouted.
"Sale and consumption of liquor, cigarettes and chewing tobacco items is rampant in Tripura and unfortunately law-enforcing agencies are also in the list of users. But somehow it has not grabbed the attention of the state government," Roybarman told the media.
