AGARTALA: A 26-year-old tribal girl from the remote Rangamura village in Khowai district has scripted history by becoming the first woman Air Traffic Controller (ATC) of Tripura.
Bipasha Hrangkhawal, a graduate in electronics and telecommunication engineering from Mumbai University, had started her career as an assistant ATC in the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, in 2017. But she was shifted to the MBB Airport here after a few months as she had to look after her ailing father.
Bipasha said her father always wanted to see her working as an ATC.
"After being persuaded by my father, I had applied for the post. But I had no idea about the pattern of questions and style of interview. I had started preparing and researching about the job profile before the interview," she added. After clearing the interview, Bipasha had to undergo a six-month training.
"I feel proud that I am sitting in the ATC guiding aircraft. Working at the ATC is considered to be one of the most difficult jobs since we are constantly dealing with a number of flights carrying hundreds of passengers. One silly mistake can finish everything in seconds," she said.
