Tripura HC unhappy over CBI delay in starting probe into chit fund cases
AGARTALA: A division bench of the Tripura high court on Wednesday expressed displeasure over CBI's delay in starting investigation into chit fund cases of the state. The court, however, directed the CBI to complete all formalities, including bringing out necessary notification from the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), for starting probe into the multi-crore scam involving non-banking financial companies (NBFCs).

Hearing a pending public interest litigation (PIL) regarding swindling of people's money by ponzy firms over the past few years, the bench comprising chief justice Sanjoy Karol and justice Arindam Lodh sought action from the CBI in four weeks.
Earlier, the Left Front government had sent five NBFC cheating cases to the CBI but those were tagged with other cases. But when the BJP-IPFT government came to power, all 77 such cases were referred to the CBI for investigation. The state government had also issued necessary notification in July this year but the CBI is yet to start any probe.
