AGARTALA: Overwhelmed after meeting 100-year-old personal guard of his grandfather Maharaj Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya in Bishalgarh village of Sepahijala district of West Tripura on Sunday, Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman gave Rs 20,000 to the family.
Gayaram Debbarma worked for few months with Bir Bikram in 1938 as his personal guard. But he had to leave the job following repeated persuasion of his parents.
Distance between the village and the palace was about 40 km and in those days there was no means of communication. Gayaram could hardly meet his parents and sister after joining the service in the palace.
"I served the Maharaj for a brief period but had enjoyed royal food and facilities. I have attended the wedding ceremony of the prince, a life-time experience of royal treatment," Gayaram told Pradyot.
The Gayaram cottage is known as 'rajbari' in the village and his two sons have been managing the family and treatment of their father. Pradyot spent more than an hour with Gayaram and his family. Before leaving the house, Pradyot donated Rs 20,000 cash and asked them to keep in touch with him.
