AGARTALA: The
Tripura government has decided to develop a marketing network of finished
bamboo products across the country to boost livelihood of the people in the rural areas and also expand the area under bamboo cultivation, Tripura CM
Biplab Kumar Deb said on Monday.
Attending an MoU-signing event between the
Tripura Bamboo Mission (TBM) and National Centre for Design and Product Development (
NCDPD) to promote bamboo and bamboo-based industry in the state, Deb added that the Modi government, in 2017, removed the tag of 'tree' from bamboo and considered it as a 'grass' for helping poor bamboo cultivators of the Himalayan region.
He stated that his government has decided to expand bamboo cultivation on 14,000 hectares of land by 2022 and also hire consultants for promoting bamboo-based industry in the state.
