AGARTALA: A committee of independent institutions will initiate a probe into the alleged Rs 10-crore e-book scam and another multi-crore graft case at the Tripura University, the university's vice-chancellor VL Dharurkar told the media on Saturday.
Two years ago, then vice-chancellor AK Ghosh had been accused of misappropriating funds while acquiring e-books and other study material for the university.
In the other case, the university's finance officer Uttam Das has been charged with corruption. "Action is also being taken against former registrar OS Adhikari for illegally taking away huge sums from the university," the vice-chancellor told the media on Saturday.
He added, "There were huge administrative and financial irregularities raised when my predecessor was in charge, but none of the cases was investigated properly."
Dharurkar said he "studied all allegations" for six months. Two days ago, the executive council of the university advised that separate inquiries be initiated into the procurement of ebooks by Ghosh and the corruption charges against Das.
"A committee has been formed by experts of independent institutions to investigate the matter. We shall get the report soon and the law will take its course," Dharurkar said. The executive council of the university has also suggested that legal action be taken against Adhikari.
Tripura assembly had to send a unanimous resolution seeking investigation against Prof Ghosh and several other organisations and individuals sent series of complaints with central government and President against him.
