Tripura's third ICP gets Centre's nod
AGARTALA: The Centre on Tuesday approved a proposal of the Tripura government to set up the state's third Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sabroom in South Tripura.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the secretary of border management, ministry of home affairs.
Special secretary to Tripura government looking after industries and commerce Kiran Gitte, who was also present, said the project will be implemented by the Land Port Authority of India like the Akhaura ICP in Agartala.

In the last few years, efforts to provide access to the Chittagong port in Bangladesh, 70 km from Sabroom town, gained importance in the Act East policy of the central government. After the BJP-led government came to power in Tripura last year, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb put in extra efforts to harness the benefits of the Chittagong port to boost trade with Southeast Asian countries.
In December, 2018, the ministry of shipping had signed an agreement with the Government of Bangladesh to allow transportation of goods from Chittagong port and work on the bridge over the Feni river is progressing well to connect Tripura with the port, Gitte said. He added that the state government has sent a proposal to the ministry of home affairs to construct an ICP at Sabroom in 2016. The proposal was approved in principle by the Land Port Authority of India in February, 2018.
