Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation signs MOU with World Bank Group's IFC
AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group have signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) for climate change and conservation of the environment. The Rs 7000 crore MOU was signed on Tuesday.
According to the MOU which was signed, the International Finance corporation will help the AMC to work out strategy for meeting the challenge of climate change and its management. The IFC will even give its directions on how to use the funds.
The MOU will be operational for five years till 2024.
The IFC will also give its technical support to the AMC for implementing the projects for climate change and conservation of environment. The IFC will also give its technical support for e-mobility, green buildings, renewable energy transport, waste water management and waste to energy.
The technical design and financial assistance will be given on public private partnership basis. As a part of the MOU the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will be a model city when it comes to controlling pollution and low greenhouse gas emission development strategies.
IT is worth recalling that the Municipal Commissioner in his budget presented last week has laid emphasis on improving Ahmedabad’s air quality, managing traffic jams using surveillance cameras, committing to put 1,000 non-polluting electric buses and 30,000 electric rickshaws on city roads in three years, regeneration of the Sabarmati and other water bodies and capping the smouldering Pirana garbage mound.
