AHMEDABAD: Ramol police on Wednesday arrested two persons - Kiran Galsar (43), a resident of Ranip, and Bhika Gajjar, a resident of CTM Crossroads, with 52 bogus high security registration plate (HSRP) for vehicles. Senior police officials said that the numbers were issued by the
RTO but were made by those who were not authorized by the RTO for the purpose.
"Such number plates are carry security risk," said a official.
Deputy commissioner of police, zone V, Akshayraj Makwana, said the scam is linked to Mumbai. "The accused used to bring stickers written "IND" from Mumbai, and sometimes the whole fake
HSRP number plates from there," Makwana said.
"We have sent a team to Mumbai to get details of those involved in the racket," he said.
Inspector K S Dave of Ramol police station said that on Wednesday night during patrolling they received a tip-off that a man with such bogus number plates will be coming from Naiya Paradise.
"We laid a watch and caught one Kiran Galsar. We found 42 fake HSRP registration number plates from him. On interrogation, he confessed before us that he had got these number plates made by one Bhika Gajjar of CTM Crossroads," added Dave.
Ramol police raided Gajjar's house and found 10 more such plates. "If a policeman sees such a number plate on a vehicle, he would believe it to be real and this is a serious matter," said Makwana.
