AHMEDABAD: The data tabled in the health committee meeting of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday suggests that 52% of
cattle registered with the corporation are already in cattle pounds or panjrapoles. The health committee on Monday decided to increase the strength of the cattle nuisance control department and to ensure that there is one team for each zone of the city.
According to the data tabled, of the 7,926 cattle registered in the city, 6,950 have been fixed with radio frequency identification tags.
Between April and August 2019, 5,952 cattle have been impounded. Of these, 4,163 are in pounds. The AMC has from April 1 till today recovered a fine of Rs 63.25 lakh from people who let their cattle stray onto the roads. As for the cattle control department, two wards had been left out of its ambit because the department had resources to carry out simultaneous raids in only five wards.
Officials said that 451 cattle are sick and needed urgent treatment. So the AMC will hire four veterinary doctors for cattle pounds. The official data shows that 12,422 dogs have been sterilized in the first five months of the current financial year.
