AHMEDABAD: Army canteen's liquor is quite popular among locals in Gujarat. But after implementation of the new liquor rule by the army canteens, people are finding it difficult to get it.
Some soldiers often make money by selling 2-4 bottles from their quota. However, to curb bootlegging, army has changed its liquor distribution policy after Ahmedabad police found army quota liquor during raids.

As per the new policy, canteen would issue liquor bottles only to permit holders. Not only that, an officer on duty will sign the bottles and remove the seal. New bottles will be given only after submitting old bottles with valid signature.
This rule is not applicable for retired soldiers.
At present, serving jawans get five units of liquor per month, retired jawans get four units every month. While the quota for JCOs and officers is six and ten units respectively.
