AHMEDABAD: Surendranagar surpassed Ahmedabad as the hottest city in Gujarat on Monday, with a maximum temperature of 44°C. Rajkot was second hottest at 43.7°C and Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar were third, at 43.2°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) website, the city will likely record a maximum of 43°C or higher for the next four days.
Coastal areas of Saurashtra and south Gujarat recorded maximums between 32 and 36°C, while north Gujarat was hotter, with Deesa a maximum of 42.8°C.
Met officials said there is no immediate system forming over the state in coming days and the next week will thus see hotter days and nights.
The city’s maximum and minimum temperatures were 1.5 and 0.5 degrees above normal, they added.
