AHMEDABAD: The
Congress and the
BJP went at each other’s throats on Saturday at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation general board meeting after the budget was cleared within an hour.
On Saturday, after the AMC board mourned the death of 44 CRPF jawans in
Pulwama, a major controversy erupted when the mayor Bijal Patel asked the opposition to adhere to the given time frame of 15 minutes for their discussion and cut short their speech.
When the opposition didn’t relent, the mayor passed the budget without completing the discussion, citing rules, and adjourned the board meeting.
The opposition later rushed to the mayor’s office and made allegations of corruption. Dinesh Sharma, the leader of opposition, said the mayor adjourned the meeting fearing that corrupt practices of the BJP will be exposed.
