The state secretariat was functioning through the lockdown. Gandhinagar has reported 88 cases so far of which 64 patients are discharged
AHMEDABAD: Just 23km from Ahmedabad city, one of the country’s worst coronavirus hotspots, Gujarat’s capital city has reported no new Covid-19 cases for the past two days. Further, 10 patients were discharged on Thursday, reducing the number of active cases in the city to 23.
According to official numbers, the city of 2.92 lakh inhabitants has reported 88 cases so far of which 64 patients have been discharged.
Just a single Covid death has been reported, from Sector-29.
The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) says lots of measures were put in place restricting the movement of people between the twin cities. “While the state secretariat had to keep functioning through the lockdown, employees from containment zones in Ahmedabad in every department were strictly told to stay back,” said a senior GMC official.
He added, “Police personnel posted near the Shahpur-GIFT City Bridge, Indroda Circle and Adalaj Crossroads were specifically made to stop motorists and check the purpose of their visits.”
GMC, medical officer for health, K I Goswami, told TOI, “Yes, it’s true we have not had any new cases on Wednesday and Thursday and have in fact had 10 discharges, taking the total number of patients discharged to 64.”
A total of 557 people are in quarantine in Gandhinagar of whom 419 persons have been home quarantined. In mid-April, additional chief secretary Rajiv Gupta had been given responsibility of controlling the outbreak in the state capital while on May 5 he was put in charge of Covid control in Ahmedabad city.
DDO R R Raval said 86% of the 216 villages in Gandhinagar district have not had a single Covid-19 case. He added that there are 56 containment zones in the district, with 74,876 people living in them.
