BA student molested by six on college campus in Gandhinagar

AHMEDABAD: A 20-year-old Dalit woman, a fourth semester BA student, was allegedly molested and assaulted by six men on the campus of the college in Sector 15 in Gandhinagar. A twenty-two-year-old college mate of the woman’s, who had earlier objected to the girl being sexually harassed by two of the attackers, was also beaten up on Saturday, July 28. Gandhinagar police booked the six men on Monday.

According to the FIR lodged with the Sector 7 police station by the woman, the daughter of a secretariat staffer, she was going towards her college with a male college mate on July 26. When they were close to the campus, Pradipsinh Naruka and Dhavalsinh Vaghela made abusive and lewd remarks at them. The woman’s male friend objected to their comments and rebuked the men .
Two days later, on July 28, the two men decided to get revenge and brought four aides along with them. The six men then assaulted the complainant and her male friend.
“I suffered injuries to my head and temple as they threw stones at me and my male friend was beaten with stones and a belt. He suffered severe injuries to his chest and back. When they were beating us, they were constantly threatening to kill us with an iron rod,” the woman complainant said.
“One of the accused persons, who was tall and dark, slid his hands inside my top and scratched my breasts so badly that it left nail marks and superficial injuries. He also tore my top when he was molesting me,” the complainant stated.
The woman managed to free herself and called police, after which they were rescued. The woman was assaulted so badly that she had to be hospitalized. Her male friend was rushed to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment.
R G Bhavsar, dySP of the Gandhinagar SC, ST Cell, said that six accused persons have been booked for molestation and assault along with sections of The Prevention of Atrocities Act.
All six accused persons were arrested on Monday and released on bail on Monday evening.
