Despite scoring good marks NEET not eligible to enter any colleges due to their poor performance in Class XII board exams
AHMEDABAD: The mushrooming of dummy schools in Gujarat has put many students in the state in a Catch-22 situation who despite scoring good marks in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2019, are not eligible to enter any colleges due to their poor performance in Class XII board exams.
There would be about 400-500 such students in the state who would be in a similar situation, said sources in education department.

Dummy schools usually represent coaching centres that are in cahoots with regular schools to reduce the school exam burden and instead allow the students to focus more on entrance exam preparation.
As many as four parents whose children have scored 521, 498, 491 and 450 marks respectively out of 720 marks in the recently announced NEET exam results approached the National Testing Agency office in Ahmedabad on Friday to represent their case, sources said.
“We have requested the authorities to look into our cases and find out some amicable solution,” said a parent who was at the meeting.
Take the case of Devanshi from Ahmedabad, who scored 434 in NEET exams, however she has failed in two subjects in the class XII board examination. According to her parents, who are doctors, she could have easily secured admission in a dental or medical college based on her NEET score had the class XII marks not been a deterrence.
To secure admission in medical colleges, a candidate is to clear NEET (UG), the entrance test for undergraduate medical and dental courses. The candidate should also have secured 50% marks in class XII board exam. While the class XII and NEET exams were held in March-April, their results were announced in May-June. Students of class XII were given grace marks up to 14 per student due to poor results this year. However, if a candidate gets 50% with the grace marks included, he or she does not qualify for medical courses.
