AHMEDABAD: After about a year, the e-challan system will resume in Gandhinagar city and periphery from November 20. The number of cameras have increased and now vehicles from outside Gandhinagar will also get memos, said Gandhinagar police officials.
P K Valera, inspector of Gandhinagar police, said that the system was discontinued to make the necessary changes in the system. "When it was functional, we used to generate about 500 memos for traffic violations daily.
The number will now increase as we will send memos outside the district as well, especially to Ahmedabad from where majority of the inbound traffic is generated," he said.
The number of cameras have been increased to 225, covering all major junctions of Gandhinagar city, said officials. Considering the high number of complaints where the previous vehicle owners were sent a memo or other technical issues, the inspector of control room will now be the nodal officer empowered to take decisions on such matters, said officials."In the past eight months, 156 persons have become victims of road traffic accidents," said Valera.
