Ahmedabad: Girl cycling to school run over by truck

AHMEDABAD: A 15-year-old girl, a resident of the Vastral area of the city, died after she was run over by a speeding truck near her house, on SP Ring Road, on Saturday morning when she was cycling to school.
Pinky Makwana was a resident of Rohitvas in Vastral village. She was Class X student at Dhruv School. Her father, Kishor Makwana, an RAF (Rapid Action Force) jawan, filed a complaint for causing death by negligent driving against an unknown truck driver with I Traffic Police.
According to witnesses, Pinky was crossing the Ring Road when the truck, going from Odhav Crossroads towards Ramol, struck her, at about 6.40am. At 7am, passersby informed Kishor that his daughter had met with an accident. Kishor rushed to the spot and found his daughter lying dead in pool of blood and beside her mangled cycle. Kishor stated in his FIR that Pinky died after the truck ran her over. I Traffic Police sent her body to Civil Hospital for a postmortem. Meanwhile, locals in Vastral gathered at the accident site and blocked the road for a while. After they were given assurances by the traffic police that swift action would be taken, they dispersed.
A traffic police official said the truck driver fled after the accident to escape the wrath of the public. The truck is registered at Bhuj RTO and was carrying a container. Police seized the truck and began an investigation to nab the driver. I Traffic Police have registered an FIR against the unknown truck driver.
