Groom’s relatives beaten for marriage in same gotra
AHMEDABAD: The marriage of a man and woman, who belong to the same caste, resulted in violence because they also belong to the same gotra (traditional patrilineal clan). The girl’s relatives severely beat up the boy’s father and two cousins near Iscon Crossroads late on Wednesday evening.
According to the FIR filed at Satellite police station on Thursday, Gaurang Sadhu (23) married Payal Sadhu (21), after which the girl’s parents and relatives were furious, because the two belong to the same gotra.

Payal’s parents then called Gaurang’s parents, ostensibly to strike a compromise, but Gaurang’s father, Kanaiyalal Sadhu, and two relatives, were beaten with sticks and suffered severe injuries.
Kanaiyalal (50), a bus driver with the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS), in his FIR stated that Gaurang and Payal were on run ever since their wedding three months ago. “On Wednesday, a member of our caste, Kanu Ramanuj, came to meet me and said that the girls’ parents wanted to reach a compromise. He took me to a place behind a hotel near Iscon Crossroads,” said the FIR.
Sadhu was accompanied by his brother-in-law Chandresh, nephew Sachin, his younger son Parth and his brother-in-law’s son, Nikhil. Ramanuj left him at the spot and Payal’s father, Hasmukhlal Sadhu, along with his relatives arrived and started arguing with them about why Gaurang had eloped with their daughter.
“Kanaiyalal and his relatives were beaten severely by Hasmukhlal and his relatives and had to be rushed to a nearby private hospital, where they are currently hospitalized,” states the FIR.
Satellite police lodged an FIR against Hasmukhlal and his relatives and began an investigation.
