AHMEDABAD: In the first round of allotment for Master of Arts (MA) courses, the Gujarat University’s admission committee has allotted seats to candidates for HK Arts College, which had discontinued postgraduate courses last year owing to staff crunch and other issues.
While HK Arts College authorities say that they have requested several times that their postgraduate centre for MA courses will remain closed for academic year 2019-20, GU admission committee officials claim that they have received no such proposal.

“The management of HK Arts College has made representations at least five times to GU’s admission committee that it won’t be able to run MA courses even this year. Despite numerous reminders to put the college in ‘no admission zone’ for MA courses, we have not received any response,” said an official of HK Arts College.
Admissions have been given to 241 candidates for MA courses in HK Arts College, said an official of the GU’s admission committee.
Take the case of Janaki Rami, who has been given admission for MA in English literature at the college. Janaki along with other students have approached GU authorities after they found that the college was not in position to run MA courses.
“Last year, HK College was put in ‘no admission zone’ and no students were allotted seats there. However, this year we have received no such request from them. HK College’s name figured in the list of colleges for admissions and seats have been given merit-wise,” said a GU official.
