Gujarat inches towards 10,000 cases, Ahmedabad crosses 7,000 and Surat 1,000

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat recorded 340 cases and 20 deaths in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Friday as the state's case tally reached 9,932 and death toll 606.
In the same period, 282 patients were discharged, taking the total number to 4,035. Jayanti Ravi, principal secretary (health & family welfare), said that the state's discharge rate has improved to 40.6%.
With the new cases, Ahmedabad district crossed 7,000 total Covid-19 cases and Surat 1,000 with 7,171 and 1,015 as on Friday evening.
The districts with a death toll of 479 and 47 have recorded 87% of total deaths of Covid-19 patients in Gujarat and 82% of total cases.

In the past fortnight, Ahmedabad has added 4,145 cases and Surat 401. Ahmedabad's case tally has increased by 136% whereas Surat has recorded 65% rise. In the same period, Ahmedabad has recorded 330 deaths and Surat 22. The cities have recorded 221% and 88% rise in death toll, indicate figures.
As on Friday evening, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar have recorded 100-plus Covid-19 positive cases.
The new cases in past 24 hours include 261 from Ahmedabad, 32 from Rajkot, 15 from Vadodara, 12 from Rajkot and 11 from Gandhinagar. Likewise, 20 deaths included 14 from Ahmedabad, 3 from Surat and one each from Panchmahal, Anand and Mehsana. With the new deaths, the state has crossed 600 deaths.
There was a slight improvement in daily testing after criticism over low testing rate. On Thursday, Gujarat had recorded 2,412 tests, which was the lowest in past one week. On Friday, the state conducted 3,150 tests, improvement of 30%. Gujarat has conducted 1.27 lakh tests so far.
