Water level in Gujarat's Narmada dam rises to 132 meter

Gujarat which was facing a threat of water crisis has something to rejoice as for the first time the water level in the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam has crossed the 132 meter mark and was flowing at 132.09 meter. The state which has deficit rainfall so far has also received 705 mm of rains which was nearly 86% of its annual rainfall of 816 mm.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat which was facing a threat of water crisis has something to rejoice as for the first time the water level in the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam has crossed the 132 meter mark and was flowing at 132.09 meters. The state which has deficit rainfall so far has also received 705 mm of rains which is nearly 86% of its annual rainfall of 816 mm.
The Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam presently has a water level of 132.09 meters, while the gross storage is 7408.90 million cubic meters (MCM), which was 3735.46 MCM at the same point in 2018.
The SSNL Dam has 3673.44 MCM more water as compared to 2018.
The dams in Saurashtra and Kutch which had less than 20% water earlier this month against their storage of 2537.49 MCM have storage of 1283.89 MCM which is 50% of the capacity. The 15 dams in north Gujarat have just 20.27% of their storage capacity. Storage levels are now 83% higher than at the same point in 2018.
Officials said that the water situation in Kutch, too, has improved as the 20 dams which only has storage of 191.60 MCM storage against their capacity of 332.27 MCM which is 57.66%. The dams in central and south Gujarat are almost full. The 17 dams in Central Gujarat have 87.07% water, while the 13 dams in sough Gujarat have 76.46% water.
The state has so far received 705.42 mm of rains which were 86.45% of the average seasonal rainfall of 816 mm. The revenue officials data reveal that there are still eight talukas in the state which have not received more than 250 mm of rains, while another 91 talukas have received rains between 251 mm and 500 mm. There are 49 that have received more than 1000 mm of rains.
