AHMEDABAD: A grand ceremony marked the beginning of the yearlong Golden Jubilee celebrations of St Xavier’s School and Mount Carmel School, Gandhinagar, on Saturday. Gujarat governor O P Kohli graced the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering at St Xavier’s, Kohli said, “One is not truly educated if he/she is not sensitive towards the needs of society and cares for other beings.” Urging the young generation to contribute to making India a developed country from a developing nation, he said, “Educators need to apprise students about global challenges and to enlighten them on how to meet these challenges.”
The programme began with a prayer dance followed by welcome address by St Xavier’s principal Fr Fernand Durai.
Distinguished guests lit a lamp to signify the threshold of the 50th year of existence progressing from darkness to light.
The programme included dances and other performances that captured glimpses of our rich culture and diverse heritage. An excellent skit on spirituality, science, education, values, charity and saving the environment was performed.
Right Rev Bishop Thomas, Rev Father Francis Parmar, St Xavier’s principal Father Fernand Durai, Mount Carmel principal Rev Sister Jennifer Gomes, Mount Carmel manager Rev Sister Humbelina, former St Xavier’s principal father Hector Pinto and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
