AHMEDABAD: A 60-year-old gynae-oncologist on Monday jumped to her death from the fourth floor of a commercial complex in the Bodakdev area of the city.
The deceased was identified as Dr Meeta Mankad, who had been a lecturer at the MP Shah Cancer Hospital and Research Institute for more than 30 years and was also working at a private cancer hospital on SG Road.
Her husband, Dr Hemant Mankad, is a physician with his clinic at Panchvati Crossroads. They were residents of Sumeru Bungalows in Bodakdev.

Inspector M M Jadeja of Vastrapur police said that the incident occurred at around 4.30pm on Monday, when Meeta jumped from the fourth floor of Advait Commercial Complex in Bodakdev. Locals called an ambulance but as it was delayed, they called doctors from a nearby private hospital, who declared her dead.
As some of witnesses knew her and her husband, they called Hemant, who informed police about the death, said Jadeja. Police did not find any belongings on her person.

“We did not even find a suicide note or any other evidence to ascertain the reason behind suicide,” said Jadeja.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts were roped in to analyse the crime scene. They said that it, prima facie, appears to be a case of suicide.
Sources in the private cancer hospital and her friends said she was battling depression for the last few months due to some family-related issues.

A shopkeeper in the complex told police that Meeta had come to the same place three days ago. “She was standing on the third floor as if she was about to jump off it. A sanitation worker saw her standing near the parapet and asked her about her intentions, so she had to return that day,” the shopkeeper told police.
Vastrapur police registered a case of accidental death and began an investigation. Her body was sent to Civil Hospital for a postmortem.
