AHMEDABAD: Now non-IIT students can also fulfil their dream to study at an IIT. IIT-Gandhinagar (IIT-Gn) has announced that it will scale up an initiative to provide opportunities for other students to study at IIT-Gn for a semester and earn credits.
IIT-Gn officials said that the initiative is aimed at improving diversity at the campus and also to extend research collaborations to other engineering colleges in India and abroad.
The criteria for the initiative include that the students must be registered at a recognized degree institute in India or abroad, must have completed at least one year of college and are sponsored by their institute to complete part of their academic requirement at IIT-Gn. The students can apply online with required documents at IIT-Gn’s website.
Prof Pratik Mutha, dean of academic affairs, said that so far, about 100-odd students have availed of the programme and the majority of the beneficiaries are from Gujarat-based institutes.
“A few of the students have collaborated with our faculty members in research projects during their semesters. The credits they earn from the course work can be transferred to their parent institution,” he said.
