JEE Advanced: four from Gujarat in top 100

Ahmedabad-based Shabnam Sahay is the top ranked female student in the common rank list (CRL) of JEE Advanced 2019 with CRL 10 the results of which were declared by the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee on Friday.

AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad-based Shabnam Sahay is the top ranked female student in the common rank list (CRL) of JEE Advanced 2019 with CRL 10 the results of which were declared by the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee on Friday.

Another city-based student Shrey Patel figured in the list of top 100 candidates with CRL 74.

Apart from Sahay, two more candidates — Nishant Abhangi and Kaustubh Dighe, both with Gujarat connections — have made it to the all India list of top 10 candidates.
Nishant, who hails from Surat, has ranked 6th while Kaustubh from Rajkot has grabbed all India seventh rank. Both the candidates had moved to Kota two years ago to prepare for the IIT entrance exams.

Shabnam obtained 308 marks out of 372 marks. Her father Arvind Sahay is a professor at the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad and her mother Bharati Singh is an architect. In the JEE Main 2019, she had ranked 400.

A student of Ahmedabad International School, Shabnam said that she has not decided on what course she would like to pursue. A piano player, Shabnam has also done Bharatnatyam Arangetram.
“I was certainly expecting to rank in top 100 and I am very glad to rank in top 10,” said Shabnam.
IIT-Roorkee has released the results of 1.75 lakh candidates. The JEE Advanced 2019 examination was conducted only in the computer based test (CBT) mode on May 27.
Of the total 38,705 candidates who have qualified/cleared the JEE Advanced 2019 exam, 5,356 are female candidates.
The seats across IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) will be allocated by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
All the candidates who are eligible for admission will have to participate in the joint seat allocation process by filling in their choices of the courses.
Shrey Patel, who ranked 74th in the all India rankings, moved from Rajkot to Ahmedabad after completing his 10th grade studies to prepare for college entrance exams. Shrey was a student of S S Divine School in Ahmedabad. His father, Jayesh Patel, is an ENT surgeon in Rajkot. In the JEE Main 2019 exams, he ranked 231.
“Engineering is my passion. I am looking forward to pursuing computer science degree at IIT-Delhi or IIT-Mumbai,” says Shrey, who has played badminton at state level tournaments.
From Gujarat, about 10,000 candidates had appeared in the JEE Advanced, of which, 700 qualified including 150 from Ahmedabad.
