Liquor worth Rs 27 lakh seized in Ahmedabad

Even as the State Monitoring Cell (SMS) of Gujarat has been after liquor mafias across the state, almost every day huge amount smuggled Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) is caught from various parts of the state, which suggests that the flow of liquor in the state is continuing.

AHMEDABAD: Even as the State Monitoring Cell (SMS) of Gujarat has been after liquor mafias across the state, almost every day huge amount smuggled Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) is caught from various parts of the state, which suggests that the flow of liquor in the state is continuing.
In the latest strike by SMC, functioning directly under the DGP Shivananad Jha's instruction and supervision of IGP Neerja Gotru, a team of SMC intercepted a trailer on Sayla Road in Surendranagar District and seized 9309 bottles worth Rs 27,92,400 and cash of Rs 4,950 along with it.

Earlier on last Thursday SMC raided a liquor den in Changodar of Ahmedabad and seized 6792 IMFL bottles worth Rs 20,37,600 from a truck
and arrested a man named Mohanlal Bhisnoi of Shedhva of Badmer in Rajasthan.
It is also worth mentioning that even action is being taken against Police Inspectors from whose Jurisdiction the liquor has been seized. In a recent crime conference held by DGP Jha, he had instructed all district and police chiefs for a crackdown on liquor and gambling mafias.
During the week which commenced on 2nd of June till 10th of June around 8302 cases of prohibition and 457 cases of gambling were registered across the state. "IMFL worth 4.36 crore and country made liquor worth Rs 10.74 lakh was seized, along with 457 cases of gambling in which muddamal worth more than Rs 1.13 crore was seized by the SMC.
DGP Jha said they have intensified patrolling and vigilance on the roads leading to Gujarat from states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Union territories like Diu and Daman from where allegedly most of the illegal liquor flows in Gujarat.
