AHMEDABAD: Revenge and an illicit relationship were behind the double murder in which 38-year-old Sadhna Parmar and her 11-year-old daughter Rubina were killed during the early hours of Wednesday. Odhav police, who solved the murder case, have arrested one Javed alias Rohit Qureshi, resident of the same Baldev Rabari Chawl where the deceased used to live. The police are hunting for the co-accused named, Kripal, and also Javed’s wife Kajal who had frequent quarrels with Sadhna over a period of one-and-a-half months.
According to the police, Sadhna had an extramarital affair with Kripal who also lived in the same chawl.
“However, after Sadhna helped her elder daughter, Reshma, elope with her lover, Kripal was annoyed. He had even snapped relations with her,” a source in the police said.
Senior police officials said this was one reason behind the double murder. “Another reason was that Javed, who used to live with his wife Kajal, had frequent quarrels with Sadhna. Sadhna had installed an electrical water pump. About six months ago, Kajal got an electric shock because of the water pump. This triggered more quarrels between the two,” police said.
Sources in the police said that around two days back, both Javed and Kripal decided to silence Sadhna once and for ever. “Kripal brought an axe and hid it in room number six of the chawl. At about midnight, while Sadhna’s husband David and her son Martin, were sleeping Kripal woke up Sadhna. Pretending to be seeking compromise, he brought her to room No. six. Here Javed was waiting for Sadhna,” a senior police official said.
Police said that as soon as Kripal entered the room with Sadhna, Javed hit her on the back of her head with the axe.
“She was repeatedly stabbed after that,” said a police officer.
“After the cold-blooded murder, Kripal went to room no five to bring a blanket to wrap Sadhna’s body for disposal. But right at the time, Sadhna’s 11-year-old daughter woke up. Kripal strangled her with a plastic thread and also slit her throat,” the police officer said.
Javed, his wife Kajal, and Kripal then fled.
During the probe, police found that Javed and Kajal were also missing. “We were successful in nabbing Javed. We are hunting for the others,” a police officer said.
