AHMEDABAD: A police inspector with the local crime branch (LCB) and two constables were beaten by an unknown man on Friday, after they prevented him from entering the “Kh” road in Gandhinagar, for security reasons due to the Vibrant
Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2019, which had many “VVIPs” participating, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his FIR, the inspector of Himmatnagar LCB, V R Chavda stated that the driver of a hatchback was seen entering the way to VGGS.
As he noticed the speeding car, he deployed a barricade and stopped him. After stopping the car, the PI asked for his pass.
On hearing this, the driver got angry at the cops and slapped him. When the PI and others tried to overpower him, he assaulted another cop as well, the FIR states. Later, some 7 other cops overpowered the man and took him to Sector 7 police station in Gandhinagar
As he was being taken to the police station, he kept abusing the cops and the government for barring him from entering Gandhinagar. “He kept saying that he belongs to a corporate giant and neither the cops nor any politician can harm him,” said an official of Sector 7 police station.
The accused was later identified as Jaimin Patel, a resident of Sector 30 in Gandhinagar. He was booked for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty and for violating the district collector’s notification. Patel got bail from a local court on Saturday evening.
