AHMEDABAD: A 27-year-old man from the Tragad area of the city committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home on Tuesday night, allegedly due to harassment by his wife.
The deceased was identified as Samshersingh Harpalsingh Sardar, a resident of Tulsi Status Society in Tragad. He worked for a private firm, a police official said.
Inspector R H Vala of Sabarmati police said Sardar had written on his bedroom wall that he was harassed by his wife and his mother was not responsible.
This has been treated as his final statement before his death.
Sardar, who is from Punjab, fell in love with a Gujarati woman named Daksha, and they married three years ago. The couple have a one-year-old son, said Vala.
“On Tuesday evening, Sardar went to his room and did not come out for a long time. His family members knocked on the door but as they did not get a response, they broke down the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Vala.
A case of accidental death has been registered for now. “We will take the statements of his family members once they are over the shock. We will collect other evidence regarding the suicide. If his wife is found to have abetted Sardar’s suicide, a case of abetment to suicide will be registered against her,” said Vala.
