Mob attack on AMC team prevents impounding of stray cattle

AHMEDABAD: A team of the cattle nuisance control department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) faced attacks in Vatva when they were impounding stray cattle on Wednesday.
The AMC officials said that the civic body had launched a massive drive to free the roads from stray cattle. The teams faced attacks from a mob led by women and who tried to prevent them from carrying out their duties. The AMC had lodged a police complaint against the unidentified persons.

The Vatva police later claimed that no formal police complaint had been registered by the AMC team.
The AMC officials said that during the first 20 days of August, 1,237 cattle have been impounded taking the total number of impounded cattled to 6,108 since April this year.
Out of these 6,108 cattle, around 4,300 cattle were in cattle pounds. The health committee on Monday had decided to increase the strength of the cattle nuisance control department and ensure that there was minimum one team for each zone of the city, the AMC officials said.
