AHMEDABAD: On the day he was suspended for moral turpitude following a complaint of bigamy, IAS officer Gaurav Dahiya moved the Gujarat high court questioning Gandhinagar police’s inquiry. He also complained that police were were harassing him.
According to Dahiya’s advocate Ashish Dagli, the officer approached the high court questioning Gandhinagar police’s jurisdiction to inquire against him on basis of a complaint of bigamy filed by a woman in Delhi.
He has contended in his petition that the Delhi police has got the jurisdiction to question him and to probe the complaint.
Dahiya has claimed that Gandhinagar police has been harassing him by asking him to appear before the police inspector in response to a written complaint, which has not even been registered as an FIR. Gandhinagar police have called Dahiya on three occasions, but he did not appear for the inquiry.
Dahiya’s advocate said that the petition has not raised any issue with regard to the content of the complaint because it is an issue that is to be adjudicated by Delhi police. The Delhi police last month had forwarded a complaint made by a woman, who claimed to be Dahiya’s second wife. She has claimed that Dahiya’s second marriage took place while his first marriage was in subsistence. Delhi police did not register the complaint as an FIR and instead forwarded it to Gujarat police. Gujarat police too did not register an FIR and started probing the matter and recording of statements. Dahiya has challenged this mode of inquiry followed by Gujarat police.
