Ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh stolen from NRI couple at ST depot
Ahmedabad: Jewellery worth Rs 11.41 lakh was stolen from the handbag of an NRI couple from Gandhinagar ST bus depot on Sunday.
According to the complaint filed by Durgeshnandini Gupta (61), she along with her husband Ashokkumar Gupta have been living in New jersey in USA for last 15 years. They had come to meet her sister Manirani Gupta at Gandhinagar five days ago.
On Sunday, they had decided to visit Vadodara to meet their relatives and booked seats in an ST bus for Vadodara.
“When we sat down in the bus, I found that the chain of my handbag was open and my wallet was missing. The wallet contained ornaments worth Rs 11.41 lakh,” said the complainant.
According to the FIR, the wallet contained a diamond-studded bangle worth Rs 3 lakh, a gold bangle worth Rs 1 lakh, gold earrings worth Rs 30,000; another gold bangle worth Rs 40,000; diamond earrings worth Rs 60,000; a gold chain worth Rs 1.50 lakh; four gold rings worth Rs 30,000, a chain along with a gold pendant worth Rs 75,000; a diamond ring worth Rs 1.80 lakh, another gold pendent worth Rs 75,000, two sets of gold chains worth Rs 30,000; a gold bar worth Rs 96,000 and an ornaments set of gold worth Rs 75,000.
She suspected that some thief had stolen the ornaments near platform-1 of the ST bus depot while they were boarding the bus.
Sector-7 police of Gandhinagar have lodged a complaint of theft against unknown persons and have begun an investigation. The police have also started collecting CCTV footage of the bus depot to nab the thief.
