AHMEDABAD: After a hiatus of nearly one week, the city recorded light to moderate rainfall in several parts on Saturday evening, catching many commuters unawares. According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) figures, the city received an average of 12mm rainfall till 10pm.
The AMC data indicated that Gota received 42mm rainfall, followed by Bodakdev (28mm) and Chandkheda (25.5mm) — all in two hours from 8pm to 10pm.
Eastern city parts recorded scant rainfall during the same period. Bopal, Ghuma and areas west of SG Road also received light to moderate rainfall in the evening hours.
According to State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) data, Sanand received 53mm rainfall in two hours whereas Bavla and Daskroi received 33mm and 18mm rain in the same period.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) website mentioned an an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Kutch and neighbourhood. The Met department officials have mentioned light to moderate rainfall in almost all districts of Gujarat for next five days with no warning for heavy or very heavy rainfall.
IMD officials mentioned that the regional divide between Saurashtra & Kutch and the rest of Gujarat in terms of rainfall is bridged for the season as the state is rainfall surplus by 25% if one considers average rainfall till August 17 on long-term basis. SEOC data has indicated 87.91% annual seasonal rainfall till August 17.
