Sarkhej-Gandhinagar-Chiloda Highway to get Rs 867 crore revamp

AHMEDABAD: One of Ahmedabad’s most iconic stretches – the SG Road – is set for a major makeover. Chief minister Vijay Rupani and deputy chief minister Nitin Patel on Monday attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the ambitious Rs 867-crore project for the development of the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar-Chiloda Highway, at Sola Civil Hospital campus.
The highway will be turned into a six-lane highway along its entire 44-km length and will have service roads on both the sides.
Formerly known as National Highway 8C, the highway which will pass through Ahmedabad city and Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts, will be renamed NH 147.

The project will also give Gujarat its first elevated highway corridor, which will covering a 4.18km stretch from Sola Bhagwat Crossroads to Zydus Cadila Junction and merge into the Thaltej underpass.
The project proposes to build seven flyovers, two railway overbridges, one vehicular underpass, two pedestrian underpasses and some 20 bus bays on either side of the road. While 50% of the project cost will come from the Union government, the rest will be raised by the state government. The project will be completed in 24 months, according to the state government.
